Trump accidentally issues statement denigrating his own ‘stupid’ election lies
The twice-indicted former President Donald Trump made a brief statement on Saturday night that appeared to unwittingly refute his own long-held (and false) claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him. “Anyone who doesn’t think there was no massive voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election is either very stupid or very corrupt!” The statement read.
Trump’s (seemingly) accidental double negative signifies the opposite of what Trump and many conservatives falsely insisted on the 2020 presidential outcome. At the end of his presidency, Trump led a failed, undemocratic and at times deadly GOP crusade , based on baseless allegations of electoral fraud, in an attempt to reverse Joe Biden’s victory in 2020. Trump and various prominent Republican Party figures have continued to push these lies in their efforts to carry out a growing number of election and election crackdowns in across the country.
Trump spokespersons did not respond to messages on Saturday asking whether the ex-president and current GOP leader meant the opposite of what he said in his written statement, or whether Trump was in fact admitting that he was either incredibly stupid or incredibly corrupt. .
