Russell F. McLaughlin, Jr obituary

Russell F. McLaughin, Jr., of Pemberton Twp., passed away Friday, June 3, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was 67 years old. Born in Mt. Holly; the son of the late Russell F. McLaughlin, Sr. and Norma R. McLaughlin Fisher, and a graduate of Pemberton Twp. HS class of ’72.

Russell was proud to raise his children and care for many pets over the years on the same farm where he grew up. His life’s work has been teaching his children and caring for Homestead Nursery, Inc. He has always been generous with his time and resources, opening his workshop and sharing his creativity, expertise and his talent for fixing things with anyone who needed help with a project; family, friends, customers, hunters and anglers were welcome in his nursery.

He was known as Guy by those close to him. He loved his wife deeply and was happiest cooking a meal, traveling to shore, or camping with Sue. His knowledge and love of plants extended even to holidays, when he enjoyed a horticultural tour. He was a member of the NJ Farm Bureau and the NJ Nursery & Landscape Association, and served on the Board of Agriculture for Burlington County and Pemberton Township. Adjustment zoning board.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Sue McLaughlin; children, Kristen (Jonathan) Wishart and Russell F. (Amanda) McLaughlin, III; his step-grandchildren, JJ Wishart and Ashley Wishart (Josh) and his children Xavier, Rosie and Remi; siblings, Christina Poole, Karen Lucas (late Johnny), Stephen (Mimi) Fisher, Virginia (Denny) Doyle, Lisa (Jim Wagoner) Fisher and Scott (Rose Madson) McLaughlin.

He is also survived by his loving mother-in-law, Jane Cowperthwait, many loving and special brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins, and his loyal employees Jose and Ruth Rodriguez.

Russ was predeceased by his stepfather, Maurice (Maury) B. Fisher, his brother-in-law, John H. Lucas, and his stepfather, J. Budd Cowperthwait.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Monday, June 13 from 5-7 p.m. at Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mt. Holly. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 14 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 125 Garden St., Mt. Holly. The family asks guests to wear face coverings during visitations on Monday evening.
