Richland 2 calls meeting to vote on Baron Davis contract

The Richland 2 school board will meet on Wednesday to vote on proposed changes to Superintendent Baron Davis’ contract.

The meeting is the first since three school board members withdrew from last Tuesday’s meeting, which resulted in an untimely end because there were not enough members to meet a quorum. The walkout from the meeting revealed infighting among board members and led board members to say they were unclear on a key vote that led the district to sue government officials state over a one-year law banning mask warrants.

The walkout was prompted by several school board members who said they did not have enough time to consider potential revisions to Davis’ contract, such as a raise in pay.

The executive session, a closed-door portion of the public meeting, will begin at 5:30 p.m., according to a press release from Richland 2. After the executive session, the board will meet in public session. Davis’ contract is the only issue on the agenda.

The meeting will be held in person at the Richland 2 Institute of Innovation, 763 Fashion Drive, Columbia, 29229, and will be open to the public. The meeting will also be live on the district website.
