Launch of the Hymnologie Ayurvedic skincare line in Canada

When dentist Jigyasa Sharma moved from India to Canada with her husband and two children in December 2020, she was desperate to find natural and effective skin care products, like those her mother prepared for her in the kitchen. For years. “Throughout my teenage years, I struggled with really bad acne and my mom would always make me these Ayurvedic recipes: picking fresh flowers and making them into pastes and having them applied to my skin,” Sharma reveals on Zoom . When she arrived in Canada, the idea of continuing this time-consuming, home-grown tradition she grew up on seemed out of reach being in a new country on top of the demands of a busy family and career. “That’s when the creation of Hymnology started.”

Rooted in centuries-old Ayurvedic formulas (rituals of the ancient Indian healing system), Sharma works with organic farmers located in the valleys of the Himalayas to source the purest, most natural herbal extracts for its line of 8 products. “We bring in the entire whole plant: we cold process the nuts and seeds to get these oils, we sprinkle on sun-dried flowers and leaves, and we create steam distillation methods to make [flower waters]. Very minimal processing is required to formulate these products,” she explains. Housed in dark glass containers to preserve the products’ shelf life (no plastic wrap here), the Hymnology Regimen consists of a deluxe exfoliating mask, face mist, serums, face creams, eye treatment and after-shower body oil. Additionally: Hymnologie has pledged to donate five percent of all proceeds to The Legacy of Hope Foundationan Indigenous-led organization working to promote healing and reconciliation in Canada.
